Average Rental Housing Vacancy Rates Ranged from 2% to 28% in Q3 2009 across US Metropolitan Areas
Average rental housing vacancy rates ranged from 2% to 28% in the third quarter of 2009 across US metropolitan areas, according to estimates released by the US Bureau of the Census.
In particular, according to Bureau of the Census estimates for the 75 largest metropolitan areas in the US, the rental housing vacancy rate ranged from 1.8% in Springfield, MA to 28.1% in Orlando, FL in the third quarter of 2009.
Among the 75 markets, eight posted rental housing vacancy rates below 7% while another 19 posted an average rental housing vacancy rate between 7% and 10%. Furthermore, 33 markets registered vacancy rates between 10% and 15% while another twelve metropolitan rental housing markets posted vacancy rates between 15% and 20%. Finally, three markets registered average rental housing vacancy rates above 20%.
