The data provided by www.zilpy.com on California apartment rents in the state's six largest metropolitan areas, is based on over 240,000 apartment/condo active listings in September 2009 and represent asking rents. According to this data average rents for studio apartments ranged from $625 in Sacramento to $1,265 in San Francisco.
Average rents for 1 bedroom apartments ranged from $721 in Sacramento to $1,275 in San Jose, while average rents for 2 bedroom apartments ranged from $875 in Sacramento to $1,600 in San Jose.
Finally, average asking rents for 3 bedroom apartments ranged from $1,208 in Sacramento to $2,207 in San Francisco, while average asking rents for 4 bedroom apartments ranged from $1,450 in Sacramento to $3,600 in San Francisco. Note that no average rents are provided for 4 bedroom apartments in San Jose due to insufficient data.
