Below we provide a partial list of sources for commercial real estate market data that are useful in better understanding and evaluating prevailing market conditions and prospects of the area and property you maybe considering for investment purposes.
Some of the listed sources provide free data but most charge a fee. It is emphasized that listed vendors may not provide equal coverage of property types and/or geographies listed. Furthermore, the description that follows regarding the commercial real estate market data obtainable from each source may not necessarily reflect the full range of information that may be available. Black's Guide, Inc.
Provides listings of Office, Industrial and Flex properties/space for lease for major markets across the US. Listings, which provide more extensive coverage of office, include square feet available for lease, asking rent and add-on costs, building address, map location, year constructed, parking ratio, average floor and building size, and space blocks available. This source is very useful for checking asking rents and availabe space in a given market/submarket considered by a commercial real estate investor.

Colliers International USA
Data provided include local market information on recent economic, vacancy, absorption, rental rate, and construction trends for Office, Industrial, Retail and Multi-Housing. Market coverage is more extensive in the case of office and industrial, moderate in the case of retail, and very limited in the case of multi-housing.

Society of Industrial and Office Realtors (SIOR)
Publishes the Comparative Statistics of Industrial and Office Real Estate Markets, which presents the results of an annual survey of industrial and office real estate market activity in major metropolitan markets.
OFFICE
Building Managers and Owners Association (BOMA)
Publishes the Experience Exchange Report annually. This publication provides operating income and expense data, including contract rent components, for more than 80 metropolitan areas. It also provides information on square feet per office worker. Data is provided for different building sizes and submarkets (downtown and suburbs).
APARTMENTS
U.S. Census Bureau
Publishes the Housing Units Authorized by Building Permits, C-40, which provides counts of housing units authorized by building permits in structures with varying number of units (monthly and annually) at the metropolitan level.
Meyers Group
Data provided include local apartment market information on permits, market size, average rent, rent growth, occupancy, and absorption. This vendor provides also new home statistics, including sales volume, price, price per square foot, sales by price range, number of projects, and inventory levels. Detailed information on selected apartment communities, including among others, location, amenities, residence features, detailed floor plan data, and rents, is also available.
M/PF Research
Data provided include local apartment market information, such as employment growth, inventory, demand, completions, occupancy, projects under construction, average rents, and same-store rent growth.
National Association of Realtors (NAR)
Data provided include information on sales of existing single-family homes and condo/co-ops, housing permit data for both single and multifamily units, profiles of home buyers and sellers, housing affordability statistics, and relocation statistics.
The Urban Land Institute (ULI)
Publishes (every 2 years) the Dollars and Cents of Multifamily Housing, which provides income and expense data for nearly 15,000 commercial rental properties
RETAIL
National Research Bureau (NRB)
Publishes The Shopping Center Directory, which provides supply data that include detailed listings of existing, proposed, new, expanding, and renovating shopping centers throughout the country. Information provided for each center includes among others, type of center, center name, location, gross leasable area, retail sales per square foot, tenant mix, major owner, leasing agent, space availability, and number of parking spaces.
The Urban Land Institute (ULI)
Publishes (every 2 years) the Dollars and Cents of Shopping Centers, which provides income and expense data for convenience, neighborhood, community, regional, and super regional centers, as well as detailed tenant operating results.
