Condo sales trends varied considerably across US regions both in terms of magnitude and direction in August 2009, according to the latest data released by the National Association of Realtors (NAR).
US condo/co-op sales at the national level decreased 1.6% in August 2009 after four consecutive months of increases. However they exhibited mixed trends across regions.
The top performing region was the Northeast where the seasonally adjusted annual rate of sales of condos/co-ops registered a monthly increase of 4.2%.
The worst performing region was the South where the seasonally adjusted annual rate of sales of condos/co-ops registered a monthly decrease of 5.6%.
Condo/co-op sales in the Midwest and the West remained at the same levels registered in the previous month.
The best performing US region on an annual basis as of August 2009 was the South where condo/co-op sales increased 15.4% compared to their August 2008 level.
The worst performing US region on an annual basis was the Midwest where condo/co-op sales decreased 9.1% compared to their August 2008 level.
Condo/co-op sales in the Northeast and West were also higher compared to their August 2008 levels by 8.3% and 10%, respectively.
