Home sales in the South increased for fourth time in the last six months in September 2009, according to data provided by the National Association of Realtors (NAR).
In particular, the seasonally adjusted annual rate of home sales for the South posted a monthly increase of 9% in September 2009 as it climbed to 2,060,000 units from 1,890,000 units in August 2009. This was the largest monthly growth rate in the last twelve months.
As the graph below indicates, home sales in the South decreased only one time in the last six months (April to September 2009) and particularly in August 2009, when they dropped 3.1%. Also in May 2009 home sales remained stable.
The second largest monthly increase registered in the South in the last twelve months was posted in July 2009 when home sales increased by 7.1%. The South experienced the largest monthly decrease in home sales in November 2008 when they dropped 9.8%.

Home sales in the South posted also a strong year-over-year increase of 9.2% in September 2009 as the not seasonally adjusted monthly volume of sales increased to 178,000 units from 163,000 units in September 2008.
