In September 2009, home sales in the West posted their largest increase in the last twelve months, according to the latest data provided by the National Association of Realtors (NAR).
More specifically, the seasonally adjusted annual rate of home sales for the West climbed from 1,150,000 units in August 2009 to 1,300,000 units in September, representing a monthly increase of 13%. This was by far the largest monthly growth rate in the last twelve months, following an increase of 1.8% in August 2009.
As the graph below indicates, this was also the fourth increase in home sales that took place in the West over the last six months (April to September 2009), as home sales in May and July posted declines of 5.2% and 1.7%, respectively. The home sales drop in May was actually the largest monthly decline registered in the West in the last 12 months
The second largest monthly increase registered in the West over the last twelve months was posted in June 2009 when home sales increased by 5.5%.

Home sales in the West registered a year-over-year increase of 5.1% as the not seasonally adjusted volume of sales increased from 98,000 units in September 2008 to 103,000 units in September 2009.
