London house prices climbed for fifth month in a row according to the latest House Price Index (HPI) released by the UK Land Registry for September 2009.
In particular, the London region HPI registered a monthly increase of 1.3% in Septmber 20009, following an increase of 0.8% in the previous month. The monthly increase in London house prices in September pushed the year-over-year rate of decline down to 3.2%.
At the national level UK house prices posted a monthly gain of 0.9% in September 2009, which pushed the year-over-year rate of decline down to 5.6%.
The London region posted actually the largest monthly gain among all UK regions, followed by the South East and East Midlands where house prices posted monthly gains of 1.1% and 0.9%, respectively.
House prices declined only in two of the ten UK regions in September 2009, and particularly in Wales and North East where the HPI registered monthly decreases of 2.6% and 0.6%, respectively.
London and South East were also the two "best" performing regions on a year-over-year basis. North East and North West were the two worst performing UK regions on a year-over-year basis in September 2009 as they posted declines of 8.2% and 8.0%, respectively.
