New York single family home sales posted double-digit drop in September 2009, according to the latest data released by the New York State Association of Realtors (NYSAR).
In particular, sales of existing single-family homes in the state of New York dropped from 8,498 in August 2009 to 7,003 in September 2009, representing a monthly drop of 17.6%. Note though that the data are not seasonally adjusted.
On a year-over-year basis, the drop in New York single family home sales was considerably smaller (-5.6%), as in September 2008 the total number of existing homes sold amounted to 7,421.
Home sales trends varied widely across the various counties within the state of New York. The largest number of sales in September 2009 was registered in Suffolk County where 779 existing single-family homes were sold, representing an 8.7% drop compared to the 853single-family homes that were sold in the previous month.
The second largest number of sales in September 2009 was registered in Nassau County where 755 existing single-family homes were sold, representing a 6.8% compared to the 810 single-family homes that were sold in the previous month.
