Northeast home sales increased in September 2009 for the fifth time in the last six months, according to data provided by the National Association of Realtors (NAR).
More specifically, the seasonally adjusted annual rate of home sales in the Northeast increased in September 2009 to 950,000 from 910,000 in the previous month representing an increase of 4.4%. This was considerably below the growth rate of 9.4% that was registered at the national level.
As the graph below indicates, this was the third largest monthly increase in the last six months (April to September 2009). The two largest monthly growth rates in the last six months were posted in July and April when Northeast home sales increased by 13.4% and 11.6%, respectively.
The largest monthly increase in the last 12 months was posted in February 2009 when home sales in the Northeast jumped 17.2%. The largest monthly decrease in the last 12 months was posted in January 2009 when home sales in the Northeast jumped droppe 14.7%.

Home sales in the Northeast registered a strong year-over-year increase of 11% as the not seasonally adjusted volume of sales increased from 73,000 units in September 2008 to 81,000 units in September 2009.
