The Median Single-Family Home Price Posted Double-Digit Year-Over-Year Decline in Q3 2009
The median US single family home price posted a double-digit year-over-year decline in the third quarter of 2009 according to data released by the National Association of Realtors (NAR).
In particular, the median US single family home price dropped from $200,400 in the third quarter of 2008 to $177,900 in the third quarter of 2009, representing a year-over-year decrease of 11.2%. However, this represents a deceleration of the annual rate of decline compared to the 15.6% year-over-year drop registered in Q2 2009.
Median single family home prices posted year-over-year declines in all US regions in Q3 2009, but at decelerating rates.
Single family home prices in the West posted the worst performance with a year-over-year drop of 16.4%, representing a significant deceleration from the 26.6% drop registered in Q2 2009.
The Northeast posted the second worst performance in Q3 2009 as the median single family home price dropped 9.4% compared to its Q3 2008 level. Median single family home prices declined by 7.9% and 5.5% in the South and Midwest, respectively, from their Q3 2008 levels.
