UK home prices continued rising in the fourth quarter of 2009, according to the latest release of the Nationwide House Price Index.

In particualr, UK house prices registered a quarterly increase of 1.6% in the fourth quarter of 2009 following a stronger rise of 3.7% in the previous quarter.
On a year-over-year basis UK home prices registered an increase of 3.4% in the fourth quarter of 2009 following a year-over-year drop of 3.0% in the previous quarter.
With the exception of Northern Ireland, UK home prices increased in all regions covered by the Nationwide House Price Index. The London region registered the largest quarterly rise of 3.4%. East Midlands and Outer Metropolitan regions registered the second and third largest home price increases of 2.8% and 2.7%, respectively.
The North and Wales registered the smallest quarterly house price gains of 0.4% and 0.9%, respectively. Northern Ireland was the worst performing region as home prices posted a quarterly drop of 6.8%.
