The US unemployment rate decreased in November 2009, according to recently released data by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics.
In particular, the national rate of unemployment decreased in November to 10.0%, from 10.2% in October, but was still 3.2 percentage points higher than November 2008.
The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate registered month-to-month statistically significant decreases in seven states. These decreases ranged from -0.3% in Texas to -0.7% in Kentucky. The other five states that registered statistically significant decreases include Connecticut (-0.6%), Kansas (-0.4%), Nebraska (-0.4%), New York (-0.4%) and Pennsylvania (-0.4%).
North Dakota, Nebraska and South Dakota posted the lowest rates of unemployment in November 2009, averaging 4.1%, 4.5% and 5.0%, respectively, while South Carolina, Rhode Island and Michigan posted the highest rates averaging 12.3%, 12.7% and 14.7%, respectively.
